About Us
John Bull & Co. is considered something of an institution in Bedfordshire, and is one of the longest running independent Jewellers in the country. We have a history stretching back nearly 200 years. The business started in 1817, two years after the battle of Waterloo, and to this day it continues to be a symbol of excellence and the epitome of traditional retail. John Bull opened his first workshop at 49 High Street, Bedford, where he made clocks and pocket watches for the local community. The 'Bull' clock still hanging proudly to this day above the original shop, is a fine example of his work and a landmark on the High Street. In 1964 John Bull & Co moved, along with many of the shops original fixtures and fittings, to a larger premises at 21 St. Peter's Street, where you will find the showroom today. As Bedfordshire's County jeweller, John Bull & Co. carries an extensive collection of Swiss time pieces, as well as jewellery from the best UK jewellers and exclusive designers across Europe. Lalique and Baccarat crystal from France, Daines and Hathaway leather goods from England and Royal Copenhagen porcelain from Denmark are just a small sample of the quality brands available in the showroom. The John Bull sales team has a tradition of finding the ideal gift to suit any occasion, a task entailing imagination, discretion, and occasionally a little detective work.
