Limited Edition of 155 watches.
In 2018, to celebrate 55 years since the introduction of the Heuer Carrera in 1963, TAG Heuer presented the Carrera “Tête de Vipère” Chronograph Tourbillon Chronometer, a limited edition of 155 pieces that is the first TAG Heuer chronograph to bear the prestigious “Tête de Vipère” stamp of excellence. The “Tête de Vipère” stamp was applied to a chronometer for the first time by the Besançon Observatory in 1897. Temporarily abandoned in the 1970s, this guarantee of precision was relaunched in 2006. Since then, only 500 pieces were stamped with this prestigious mark. In order to obtain the certification, each fully assembled watch — not just the movement — undergoes a protocol involving 16 days of testing, in five different positions at three different temperatures.
Characterized by the contemporary design of the 45 mm midnight blue ceramic case, complemented by ceramic bezel and lugs, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Chronometer features two of traditional watchmaking’s most famous complications: a tourbillon and a chronograph. The skeletonised dial has two counters, the chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock and the chronograph hour counter at 9 o’clock, with the blue tourbillon at 6 o’clock.
Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve in excess of 65 hours, the automatic HEUER-02T calibre has sophisticated finishes with touches of blue on the weight and movement barrel and polished, brushed and bead-blasted surfaces. The “Tête de Vipère” stamp has been applied to the bridge, visible through the sapphire crystal of the case back.. Water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet (not tested by us), the TAG Heuer Carrera “Tête de Vipère” Chronograph Tourbillon Chronometer is completed by a black alligator strap sewn onto rubber with blue stitching.
This watch has been treasured by a collector and is in superb unmarked condition. It comes as a full set in its special presentation box and with warranty card, manual and original receipt for full provenance.
