In the late 1950’s Omega launched a series of watches now called the trilogy, it consisted of the Seamaster 2913-1 ,the speedmaster 2915-1 and the Railmaster 2914-1.A nice early example of one of the first executions of the Speedmaster will cost you potentially £200,000 a nice Seamaster a more modest £40,000 and yet possibly the most technically superior of all three watches is the Railmaster and I am delighted to have this example from 1957 to share with you today for a fraction of those prices although I suspect that sometime very soon these pieces will become very sought after, just as early Rolex Milgauss or IWC Ingenieur have become.

The Railmaster 2914 is also the rarest of the trilogy as it was only produced from 1957 until 1963 and the first execution like this 2914-1 is the scarcest of them all.

The standout feature of the earliest trilogy watches is the broad arrow hands, later watches came with either Dauphine or baton hands.

The 38mm stainless steel case wears very differently to other members of the trilogy due to the fact these watches were primarily designed for the scientists of the day and as such was designed to offer the best antimagnetic protection it could ,something achieved in this instance by using a much thicker dial 1.0 mm rather than a standard .4 mm and a double lined case and thick separate case back to create a Faraday cage protecting the movement from magnetic fields of 1000 Gauss and offering superior shock resistance to almost any other watch of the day.

The other important feature on the early Railmaster is that these were the only ones to use the manual winding cal 284 movement which only appears for 1957 and 58

You will notice that the harmful Radium has been made safe by one of the worlds most respected experts in the filed and I hope you agree with me the result is truly amazing.

I have fitted this piece to a vintage style Italian brown leather and it wears superbly.

A perfect watch to wear if you want a truly outstanding vintage piece with tons of history and character and I pretty much guarantee you won’t meet anyone else wearing one.
